Consultation 

Your initial consultation with Dr. Mohamed and his team is the first step towards receiving exceptional results from your cheek augmentation in Charlotte. Your comfort, safety, and confidence in our skills are our number one priority. 

At your consultation, we will discuss your desires, cosmetic concerns, treatment expectations, and any questions you may have regarding the procedure. Dr. Mohamed will also review your medical history, evaluate your general health status, and perform a comprehensive facial assessment. 

At our practice, we offer three forms of cheek augmentation: cheek implants, fat grafting, and dermal fillers. Based on your cosmetic goals, we will work with you to determine which type of cheek augmentation is right for your individual case. 

What Should I Do in Preparation?

Preparation for your cheek augmentation depends on which type you have chosen for your treatment. 

Since dermal fillers are a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure, there are not many preparation steps to follow before your treatment. Cheek implants, on the other hand, require more preparation. 

To ensure you are fully prepared for your treatment, Dr. Mohamed and his team will provide you with a detailed list of preoperative instructions. 

What is Surgery Like?

If you have chosen cheek implants or fat grafting for your cheek augmentation, Dr. Mohamed will first administer anesthesia to ensure you are relaxed and comfortable during the procedure. 

As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, he is highly qualified to administer all forms of anesthesia and will help determine which type is right for you: local anesthesia, general anesthesia, or IV sedation. 

If you have chosen cheek implants, Dr. Mohamed will make an incision inside the mouth or under the eyelid to insert the implant. If a fat transfer is being used, Dr. Mohamed will make small incisions in the areas where fat is harvested and again in your cheeks. Then, he will inject the fat into the cheekbone area according to your individual treatment plan. 

If you have chosen the minimally-invasive cheek augmentation option of dermal fillers, Dr. Mohamed will inject a filling solution into the cheekbone area to achieve your desired results. 

Recovery & Aftercare 

After your cheek augmentation treatment, Dr. Mohamed and his team will provide you with a detailed list of aftercare instructions. We urge you to follow these instructions as closely as possible to foster optimal healing and reduce any risk of complications. 

Here is what you can expect during your recovery based on the type of cheek augmentation: 

• Cheek implants or fat graft – Recovery takes around 7 to 10 days. Swelling will gradually subside over the course of 3 to 6 weeks. Final results will be revealed after about six months, but you should notice improvements within a few days after surgery. 

• Dermal fillers – This is a minimally-invasive treatment that requires zero downtime. You can typically resume your daily activities directly after treatment, but it is generally best to take it easy. You may have some slight swelling or bruising in the treated areas, but this should subside after a few days. Final results are seen after 7 to 10 days. 

How Long Will My Results Last? 

The longevity of your cheek augmentation results depends on several different factors. You can better maintain and benefit from your results by wearing daily sunscreen, following a customized skin care regimen, eating a nutritious diet, staying hydrated, maintaining a healthy weight, and managing stress levels.
